APEC/Customs Booklet Design 2007
Meta Design Studio was commissioned by the Australian Customs Service for the APEC Secretariat to design a brochure for the 2007 APEC Summit. The brochure’s purpose was to highlight the positive outcomes that the Sub-Committee on Customs Procedures (SCCP) is delivering for Customs administrations and international trading community of the APEC region.
The design had to follow certain guidelines in regards to branding/logo placement. From the colours of the logo, a colour system was implemented that reflected this APEC branding. Strong colours and a simple typeface enhanced the APEC brand. The whole design maintained a clear and legible feel that worked well and was therefore a document that was easy to follow.

The cover design for the ‘Blueprint’ Apec/Customs booklet
The theme for the brochure was “A Window to the Future”. What Meta did with the design was use a square shaped format that was indicative of a typically shaped window. The introduction of solid bars that broke up the text and images also added to this “window design” philosophy. Each spread used this layout format to communicate the theme of the booklet.

The outcome of this design was that it was a strong piece that was aesthetically pleasing and concise in its communication. The ability to follow a certain style and “push the envelope” made it a piece that both client and studio were extremely proud of. Meta was commissioned to do more work for the Summit in relation to the success of this project.
